JJBA: Guido Mista by cogdis JJBA: Guido Mista by cogdis
Guido Mista from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part V: Vento Aureo.

Again, I'm using an existing composition!

This image is just my shot at Mista as he appears in this image/pose: [link]
(I'm pretty sure that image is flipped horizontal from how it appeared as a cover.)

God bless you Hirohiko Araki and your skanky, skanky men!<3<3

I actually prefer this color scheme for him to...whatever one Araki settled on for him (tho all of those were cool too). This scheme sort of anchors him down to our world instead of an acid trip x3. But, I suppose I love it all regardless. Good job :)

I like the idea of color schemes being fluid . . . But I do have a preference for less acid trippiness as you've described, lol! And thanks! :D

For me if a scheme's fluid, it helps in setting up the whole picture. I still need a *lot* of work on dynamic lighting, so consistency in the coloring process helps a lot. But for others they probably don't need that.

Still tho I love how Araki just has so much fun w/ colors, and it's gotten to me now x3.

I think I read a translation of an interview with Araki saying something very similar! That the colors are about what looks good in the whole for him . . . That he's thinking quite a bit about color relationships.

Man, he is so very inspiring. :D

I wish I could remember that interview, but that sounds like him. I'd love to hear him talk about doing linework, b/c I think he does lines raw w/o using pencil. That's amazing.

I'm working on using color as an anchor for mood and feel much more, hoping it goes well. Trying more underpainting might help.

Oh my god, I can't even fathom doing lines without a pencil . . . Except maybe if I'm thinking of doing lines with a really light bic pen or something . . . He must really have Rohan's stand. *jealous*

The interview I'm talking about I read on the info page of the Hirohiko Araki Facebook page: [link] (Under "Personal Interests")

So it took me a few weeks to respond . . . How are the color explorations going? :D

Ooh, I doth think I have a reason to use my FB page again after SOOO long x3. Certainly worth a read, thnx :)

They've actually gone VERY well. Learned a lot more about diluting paint w/o losing the strength, the real "secret" to color mixing (single-pigment paints, cool and warm primary mixes etc), and stuff. So, just looking for any chance to implement that in new stuff.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I totally forgot I wanted to ask again how your explorations are going now? Because apparently I only respond to messages once a month and there's a lot to catch up upon in that time. :D

Oh, that's all exciting! Sometimes I think I should go through all my old sketchbooks that I had in university . . . Because I took lots of notes on color stuff that I didn't really care for back that. But then I've always been kind of a troublemaker who puts dead bugs in paintings and things like that. No instructor ever gave me tips on painting with dead bugs, but I could probably present a good hours worth of material on the matter, ha ha.

Oh god, there's like four ongoing conversations now between us. Feel free to drop or condense as you see fit. :D

That's exactly the kind of thing I like to explore! . . . Trying to get a sense of what characters would look like if met in person (without losing too much of what makes them a character. I think I could make them more real, but I'd start losing sense of them and it might fall flat, heh.)

That was a crazy fight! I just reread it a couple days ago. Man, it's a lot shorter than I remembered- It felt so long and difficult of an ordeal the first time through!
